Day 1: Bucharest – Sinaia – Bran – Brasov
Departure from Bucharest at 9:00 am.
The first adventure on the Week-end in Transylvania private, guided tour is the stop in Sinaia, on our way to Brasov, which is one of the finest mountain resorts in Romania, with spectacular surroundings and rich history. Visit at the famous Peles Palace, former summer residence of the Romanian royal family. It’s over-the-top opulent with 160 rooms, a lot of them with different themes, like the Turkish and Moorish salons, rooms designed in Baroque and Rococo. Amazing carved and inlaid wood floors, panels, and ceilings, statues, paintings, armor and weapons, luxurious furniture, leaded glass windows. From the outside, the castle looks like a really nice hunting lodge with statues and fountains on the grounds, and an elegant clock tower.
Arrival at Sinaia at 11:00 am.
In 1866 the prince Carol of the Hohenzollern – Sigmaringen arrives to Romania to claim the throne. He choses Sinaia to build the royal residence. Today the summer residence of the royal family, Peles Castle is considered to be the most beautiful from Europe. It was the first castle with elevator and own heating and warm water system from the north-eastern Europe.
Having 65 rooms with different renascentist styles (swiss, german, english, spanish, italian and austrian), in Peles Castle you can see famous paintings and sculptures. The stained glass, chandeliers, china, furniture, mirrors, sculptures, carpets all together make of Peles Castle something unique and impressive. The construction of the castle started in 1873-1875 by the austrian architect Wilhelm Doderer, but finished by an czech architect Karel Liman (also the builder of Pelisor Castle) in 1914. you will encounter here different architectural styles which will captivate you.

In 1462, the vallachian ruler Vlad Tepes (also known as Dracula) was arrested by the austro-hungarian emperor Matei Corvin because an alleged treason with the help of Mahomed the second, the emperor of the Ottoman Empire.
In a letter sent by the saxons from Brasov city to the emperor Matei Corvin was written that Vlad Tepes and Mahomed the second have promised to each other peace, but the price was that the vallachian ruler to offer Transylvania to the Ottoman Empire, land considered to belong to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

On the last day of the week-end in Transylvania Tour we will take you to Sibiu, Biertan. The Biertan Keep is the most wanted destination of the common man, the historians and archaeologists alike. Iis assumed that it was bult in 13 century, but officialy in 1387 the keep was already there.
His famous Biertan Donarium, written in latin language, is treated by the scientists with great care because if it’s importance. It proves that in 3rd century the dacian people were already romanized, evolved, cultivated.
The altar of the Biertan church, built in 15 century, is the biggest one from Romania.
If you want to get back in the medieval times, to see time crumbled walls, with towers and battlements that stimulate you imagination, to lost times with princes and princesses, with fairs and townsfolk all together, then most definitely Biertan is a place to visit.

Visiting Sibiu on a walk
Surprising, the historical center of the medieval city Sibiu has succeded to preserve almost entirely it’s original features. It’s foundation is linked to the saxon colonization in Transylvania, the city being built on a daco-roman settlement. In 1191, the city was known as Cibinum, but with the annexation of Transylvania to the Austro – Hungarian Empire, the city name was changed to Hermannstadt.
There are well preserved buildings, dating from the Habsburg Empire (1699). Sibiu was considered to be the most powerfull city from Transylvania. Narrow streets, tipical architectural elements, large squares, magnificent inside walls, well preserved defence towers.
After the tatars invasion in 1241, Sibiu was fortified in several stages, getting to have 39 defence towers and 5 bastions. sibiu piata mareYou can still admire the Soldisch and Haller bastion, the Stairs Tower, Council Tower, the Carpenters Tower, the Gunsmith Tower, Pottery Tower, the Brukenthal Museum and Sibiu city Hall, the Holy Trinity roman-chatolic Church (1726-1733).
Another touristic attraction is the Evangelical Church (XIV century), built on an old roman basilic. The small square, the Huet square, the arts museums, The arts House, Louxembourg House, the Bridge of Lies, make of Sibiu an ideal place.
