Our Day Tour to Viscri has a lot to offer! You arrive into the village on an unpaved road, and when the road conditions are bad, you take a horse drawn cart that was designed for these roads a few hundred years ago. The little houses lining the 2 or 3 roads are the original Saxon houses, many of them lovingly restored, and painted pale blue, typical of Saxon villages. As you walk down the road, chickens are happily roaming the yards and pecking for food, residents are spotted working on some type of archaic implement that is still used for their farming.
Viscri is also home to a cottage industry for knitted goods – socks, hats, sweaters and scarves, whose income is the sole source for many households.

Sighisoara

Sighisoara was founded by the Transylvanian Saxons during the 12th Century, and still stands as one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. Designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this perfectly intact 16th Century citadel with cobbled streets, burgher houses and churches rivals the historic streets of Old Prague or Vienna.
Vlad Dracula was born here in 1431 and lived with his family here for 5 years. His house is just one of the many attractions here. Others include the Church on the Hill with its 500-year-old frescoes, the 13th Century Venetian House and the Church of the Dominican Monastery, known for its Transylvanian renaissance carved altarpiece, The Clock Tower and The Medieval weapons museum.
A walk through the town’s hilly streets with their original medieval architecture is like stepping back in time.

Biertan

Bierthalm, the Saxon name of the village, takes us to think of the locals, the settlers. Biertan is situated between Medias and Sighisoara, in the center of Romania, in an area unspoiled by civilization, where the birds, the wild animals merge into the unnaturally wild landscape. Included in UNESCO World Heritage, the town has 3041 inhabitants, of which only 88 Sasis have remained. It is documented from the sec. XII, when King Gheza II encouraged the colonization of Transylvania, with Saxons, Hungarians, for better control of the area, but also with the aim of forming a wall of defense against the Ottoman expansion. The Biertan citadel church is a point of attraction for the locality. The three strong walls of the fortress are the last of this kind, which is still in good condition. The walls are separated, each with its imposing guard towers, with its gates. Built in Gothic style, specific to the place, the church preserves 28 well-preserved paintings representing biblical moments from the life of the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus, culminating with the moment of crucifixion, and the judgment of the latter. The main occupation of the inhabitants of Biertan was viticulture, over 700 years old, then pastoral and agriculture. Since 1999, both the village and the Biertan Citadel Church are part of UNESCO World Heritage. In the summer, the broad streets of the village are full of tourists coming from all over the world, amazed and excited by the uniqueness and charm of the place.
