Dâmbovicioara cave, situated in the carstical area of the Rucăr-Bran passage, is one of the most important speological area in our country. Located in the southern part of Piatra Craiului Mountains, Dâmbovicioara canyon, the acces gate towards Dâmbovicioara cave, impresses through its massive stone walls, the narrow and wild passage. The cave has a constantly moderate humidity, preponderently dry, with a temperature between 10 and 12C, consisting of only one gallery of a total length of 555 meters. It is estimated to be at least 300.000 years old and during the first world war it served as a shelter for two famous outlaws, Fulga and Budac. These two became well known for their acts of robbing the wealthy and rich people and giving their money to the poor.

Rucăr-Bran Pas:
The Rucăr-Bran corridor, known also as the Rucăr-Bran passage, crosses a rural area with a special charm that surprises through its purity, natural beauty and its history. Practically we are passing a massive defile, the millenial link between the realms of Muntenia (known also as Valahia, or Țara Românească) and Transylvania, the famous link that was established from before even the Roman Empire of the East. The defile separates the massive mountains Bucegi, the second mountain in terms of height from Romania (2501 meters), from Piatra Craiului, (with a height of 2235 meters) two mountains full of rich fauna, incredible natural reservations. The route begins at the former border of Bran, through which large numbers of merchants and foreigners used to pass the border with their carts heavily loaded in hopes of fruitful trade, up to the former borders of Transylvania, located in the heart of the mountains.Winding roads, deep valleys, with scatterd houses at hundreds of meters one from another, with clouds so close to the ground you could just touch them….a unique and melancholic scenery that’s impossible to forget. This historical, medieval road impresses every passer. On the hills there can be spotted herds of sheeps and cows grazing peacefully. In the old days, the Saxons that lived in Transylvania used to cross over the mountains in order to trade the goods with the other rich Romanians.
