Bran Castle
Full of legend and contrast the Bran Castle has become famous because of the Dracula movie. Today the summer residence of the royal family, Peles Castle is considered to be the most beautiful from Europe. It was the first castle with elevator and own heating and warm water system from the north-eastern Europe.Built in 1377, the Bran Castle was donated by the Brasov community to the Habsburg Empire in order to obtain some trading facilities and lower taxes. Then the castle was donated to the Queen Mary in 1920 to enter into the royal family good graces ( Ferdinand and queen Mary), but also as a token of apreciation for the sacrifice, heroism and involvement of the Queen Mary into the first world war, where next to the romanian army they unite the three romanian kingdoms Transylvania, Moldavia and Valachia having as result the unificated Romania. Has becomed a military strategic point, with the role of protecting and control the commercial route, the movement of the tartar and turkish ground troups, but also for the border between Transylvania and Valachia.With an unique achitectural style and verry impresive, the Bran Castle will charm you at once.
Harman Fortified Church
Located at the crossroads of tartar and Turkish invasions, Harman Saxon fortified church dates from the 13th century and is taken by the Teuton Knights in 1211 – 1225. Same as Prejmer and Rasnov fortified churches, it was attacked multiple times, but never conquered. The fortified walls lost their military importance starting from the 18th Century, but the Church was not abandoned. It was instead used as storage for supplies, which has helped the church to be restored and maintained until nowadays. The legend says that Vlad Tepes was buried beneath this monastery in big secret, so that the Turks won’t find it. Prejmer Fortified Church
Since medieval times, the Prejmer city, was called “The village of a thousand springs”. Same as Harman, the Prejmer fortified church is positioned in a sensitive area of Transylvania and Barsa Country, always at the crossroads of invasions.The name of this location “Tartlau” means “the field of tartars”. It is said that Prejmer keep was the most powerfull evangelic fortified church from Eastern Europe, because was under tartar and turkish siege over 2000 years and never conquered. The Prejmer Fortified Church was built in 1240 and is in tight relationship with the Habzbourg politics in order to protect the german community from the area. In 1211 the king Anrew the second brings to Barsa Country the Theuthon Knights to protect the S-E of Transylvania. Also in this church can still be found the first automated medieval firing system. (the so called orga of death).
Rasnov Fortress
Rasnov fortress was built in 1331, along with the city with the same name. The fortress was often confused with the city, because of the same name and so various names was created: Rosarum (1388), Rosenaw (1413), Rosnyo (1585). Along with Prejmer and Harman fortified churches the Rasnov stone keep was attacked for over 1500 time and was never conquered. In the Tartar invasion of the 1335 year, it has been said that the Tartar Leader has lost half of his men driven by the desire of taking over the keep, but without any succes. Eleven nearby villages depended of the protection of this beautiful keep. Also the Rasnov fortress have the deepest fountain from Europe. It was built in the 17 century by 2 Turkish prisoners.
