Peles Palace
In 1866 the prince Carol of the Hohenzollern – Sigmaringen arrives to Romania to claim the throne. He choses Sinaia to build the royal residence. Today the summer residence of the royal family, Peles Castle is considered to be the most beautiful from Europe. It was the first castle with elevator and own heating and warm water system from the north-eastern Europe. Having 65 rooms with different renascentist styles (swiss, german, english,
spanish, italian and austrian), in Peles Castle you can see famous paintings and sculptures. The stained glass, chandeliers, china, furniture, mirrors, sculptures, carpets all together make of Peles Castle something unique and impressive. The construction of the castle started in 1873-1875 by the austrian architect Wilhelm Doderer, but finished by an czech architect Karel Liman (also the builder of Pelisor Castle) in 1914. You will encounter here different architectural styles which will captivate you.
Pelisor Castle
Pelisor Castle was built by the czech architect Kasel Liman, between 1899-1902 and it was decorated by the viennese Bernard Ludwig with the purpose of home for the princely family King Ferdinand and Queen Maria.Ferdinand, the grandson of King Carol I and Maria, the daughter of Alfred duke of Edinburgh and the grandaughter of russian tzar Alexandru II, will claim the throne in 1914, after the death of Carol I. Queen Maria, also known as the Artist Queen, transformed the Pelisor Castle in a beautyfull and attractive princely home. You can feast your eyes with celtic decorations and zoomorph byzantine elements, in 1900 style. A beatyfull castle, fascinant and interesting, Castelul Pelisor can offer many attractins and not only.
Sinaia Monastery
Situated in a fairy like landscape, Sinaia Monastery is known to be the Pearl of the Carpathians. Built in 1695 by the ruler Mihai Cantacuzino, the monastery is one of the three main attractions of Sinaia. The pilgrims that came to visit named it the Carpathian Cathedral from Sinaia Mountains. The actual shape, and the new yard was built between 1842-1846, by the Ioasaf and Paisie abbots. Between 1866-1875 king Carol I and queen Elisabeth lived at Sinaia Monastery. They liked the place so much that even afer building Peles Castle, they came back to the monastery for it’s silence and beauty.
